Tyler Gerbavsits is increasingly making a name for himself in the golf world. The Huntington High School junior was honored earlier this week at the Metropolitan PGA’s junior golf awards ceremony at the famed Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck.

An All-State golfer, Mr. Gerbavsits has a long of record of participation in Metropolitan PGA events. He’s a sensational student, too, earning top grades in many of Huntington’s most challenging classes.

Mr. Gerbavsits was presented with the Metropolitan PGA Junior Tour’s 2016 Sportsmanship Award before a crowd of about 250 during the ceremony in Westchester. Steve Scott, the PGA pro at Paramount Country Club told the Huntington junior that “this award is the best one of the night. You should be very proud.”

“It was a true honor and privilege to be recognized for such a special award,” Mr. Gerbavsits said. “The golf season is going great for me and the team. It’s really special to have a team that can pick each other up during tight matches.”

The Blue Devil links star has caught the eye of the golf community for a long time. “For many years we have been greatly impressed not only with your golf skills, but the tremendous sportsmanship you demonstrate while at our events,” said Daniel Frankel, director of junior golf for the Metropolitan PGA.

Coached by Michael Marinello, the teenager is one of the top high school golfers in New York this year. He’s aiming to qualify for the state championship at Cornell University on June 3-5.

“The mission of the PGA Junior Tour is to educate promising junior golfers like yourself with the life lessons the game has to offer, such as honesty, respect and courtesy,” Mr. Frankel told Mr. Gerbavsits. “You are an exemplary model of these qualities.”

The award is given to one junior annually “who demonstrates that they go above and beyond what is required of them on the golf course.”

“You are an excellent example of what this organization stands for and the skills and etiquette we try to impart to each and every one of our members,” said Mr. Frankel about Mr. Gerbavsits.
