Garrett Moya turned in his best game of the season as the Huntington High School senior tallied eight goals and two assists to lead the Blue Devil boys’ lacrosse team past visiting Middle Country, 17-3.
Moya was unstoppable on a rainy afternoon, scoring repeatedly and igniting Huntington’s offense. The teenager’s exceptional game gives him 30 goals and 19 assists this spring.
“It was a great team win and I’m glad we had an easier game with such a hard schedule,” Moya said.
The Blue Devils took a 4-0 first period lead, extending the advantage to 11-2 by halftime. The second half belonged to Huntington, too. But coaches Kevin Travis, Eric Triolo and Julian Watts took nothing for granted.
Matt Gelb notched three goals and three assists and Colby Martin added four goals and an assist. Freddie Amato and Jordan McCoy also scored goals. Ryan Gorecki and Matt Mattiace both picked up three assists. Patrick Durand, Jon Koumas and Gerard Federici all assisted on goals. Goalies Chris Martin and Sam Bergman stopped four shots each in the cage.
The Blue Devils have games with Commack, North Babylon, Smithtown West, Patchogue-Medford and Smithtown East remaining.
Huntington’s Senior Day is scheduled for May 5 at 4:30 p.m. against visiting Patchogue-Medford. The Blue Devil seniors include Jared Leake, Matt Mattiace, Matt Meyers, Andrew Monahan, Mark Rafuse, Austin Reda, James Shea, Ryan Stieve, Brian Weigold, Moya and Gelb.
