Incoming Huntington High School freshman and their parents will participate in an orientation program at the school on Wednesday, August 30. The program will begin with introductory remarks at 9:30 a.m. by Principal Brenden Cusack, Assistant Principals Joseph DiTroia and Gamal Smith and Superintendent James W. Polansky.

Participants in the orientation will be introduced to department level administrators, PTSA leaders, Class of 2021 advisors and officers and the Natural Helpers team.

Freshmen will rotate through several sessions with guidance counselors and student leaders during which they will learn more about the clubs and activities at the school, the role of administrators and support staff and the availability of the Natural Helpers program, which involves specially trained peers helping each solve problems. Students will be able to tour the building and check on their locker location.

While incoming freshmen are participating in their specialized sessions, parents will be engaged in a discussion in the auditorium with building administrators and a student panel on academic opportunities, community service requirements, school policies and “important things to know about the high school.”

The orientation will conclude with an 11:30 a.m. picnic in the courtyard for students and parents.

“This is an excellent opportunity for students to get to know their counselors, administrators and peers, to familiarize themselves with the building and to learn about everything that Huntington High School has to offer,” Mr. Cusack said.
