Southdown Primary School recently held a Splash Assembly and honored its November star students.

Southdown is the home of the dolphins, the school’s mascot. Students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in the classroom and all around the building, including being kind to others, demonstrating proper behavior in hallways and even boosting the spirits of someone feeling a little down.

One Southdown student is selected from each class in the building for formal recognition at the monthly “splash” assembly. The school considers these youngsters to be its “stars of the month.”

The focus of the recent assembly was on kindness, which is being celebrated throughout the month at Southdown.

The recent honorees included: Kindergarten: Max Slepian, Natalia Hernandez, Nalani Vassor; First grade: Billy Oliva, Ariana Hill, Gianna Skrobela; Second grade: Clive Polinsky, Mia Gormsen, Debra Bhaduri, Amyah, Escalona, Asa Sachs; Third grade: Joana Martinez-Alfaro, Darcy Verville, Jake Chiclacos, Analia Bonilla; Fourth grade: Anyeline Fonseca Lopez, Christian Luca, Maya Akerman.

Southdown teacher Amy Leinwand was also recognized for her outstanding efforts on behalf of the building’s students.

“Everyone at Southdown is proud of our award recipients,” Principal Scott Oshrin said.
