Huntington High School’s competitive dance team has reorganized following this past June’s graduation. The Highsteppers will formally kickoff the new season with a four day camp beginning August 16.
Coached by business teacher Paige Tyree, the team includes freshmen Jailyn Fuentes, Katelin Smith, Alexa Rind, Hallie Armengau, Kate Sheran and Lainey Carney; sophomores Maria Fuertes, Bella Thompson, Livia D’Anna and Mia Redick; juniors Brooke Cafiero, Sophia LaCentra, Casey Smith and Kaitlyn Smith and seniors Charlotte Brosoff, Bethany Danziger, Casey Moskowitz, Sophia Ornato and Jamie Spector.
The team’s senior captains are Casey Moskowitz, Jamie Spector and Bethany Danziger. Sophia LaCentra is the junior captain.
The Highsteppers will participate in a camp at Huntington High School from August 16-19. The team will engage in conditioning and training and work on this year’s routine.
“Just like last year, we decided to hold our own camp run by the captains,” Ms. Danziger said. “We will be teaching the new Highsteppers our style of dance and then we are teaching the team a dance, which will be used for a football game.”
The Highsteppers will perform at the high school’s fall pep rally and during halftime of home football and basketball games. They will march in the Homecoming Day parade and compete in regional qualifiers in the run up to the national championships in Orlando, Florida late next winter.
In the past, the team has even performed on stage during the high school Key Club’s K-Factor talent show.
The Highsteppers lost many of their most experienced dancers to graduation, but the 2017/18 team is already shaping up as one of the best ever.
