A group of 21 exceptional Huntington High School athletes was presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at the 49th Blue Devil Senior Athletic Awards Banquet in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.

The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation, according to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy. This year’s Blue Devil recipients include Elizabeth Berejka, KeiRon Byrams, Daniel Collins, Ryann Gaffney, Anna Gulizio, Kyree Johnson, Louise Koepele, Jared Leake, Lawrence Leake, Shannon Maloney, Shane McGuire, Erin Morrisroe, Torre Palmer, Alexis Pastorelli, Emma Petrizzi, Mark Rafuse, Marina Ruzic, James Shea, Jolena Smith, Ryan Stieve and Tara Wilson.

“The Gold Key is a county award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance,” Mrs. McCarthy said. The award is presented in every Suffolk high school to students who have earned a minimum of eight athletic letters on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years

Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky formally presented the awards to the recipients. “This is wonderful achievement by these outstanding young men and women,” Mr. Polansky said.
