Fresh off a free boys’ soccer clinic for fifth and sixth graders at Woodhull Intermediate School that drew 70 energetic youngsters, Huntington High School coaches John Pagano, Jason Suarez and Jose Alfaro have organized another free clinic.
A 90 minute session is planned for next Wednesday, June 14 at Jefferson Primary School for that building’s second, third and fourth grade boys. The clinic will run from 3:30-5 p.m. on the school’s athletic field. No advance registration is necessary. Players should come dressed and ready to play. All participants should bring a soccer ball with them to the clinic.
The Woodhull clinic’s attendance shattered earlier expectations. “It was an unbelievable turnout,” said Pagano, who is the longtime Blue Devil varsity boys’ soccer head coach. Some of Huntington’s current top players assisted at the Woodhull clinic and will be at next Wednesday’s session at Jefferson.
The Jefferson clinic will include instruction, drills and scrimmages. Huntington is in the midst of a magnificent run of success for its boys’ soccer programs on the varsity, junior varsity and middle school levels. There are many skilled athletes in the pipeline with even more talented youngsters making their way up through the elementary grades.
The Blue Devil coaches are hoping for a large turnout of second, third and fourth graders for the June 14 clinic. Players don’t need to be experienced, just interested in the sport of soccer and looking to have fun.
