Huntington High School’s Art Honor Society recently welcomed 15 new members, who were inducted into the organization during an evening ceremony before family and friends.
The group is led by President Molly Warren, Vice President Tateana Khokhar, Corresponding Secretary Gabriella Bartley, Recording Secretary Rudi Fasolino and Treasurer Quinn Blackburn. The new inductees join 26 continuing members to increase the organization’s ranks to 41.
The new inductees include Colette Barron, Erin Bonitz, Michael Bradford, Katie Burton, Sophie Dellecave, Destiny Delva, Irtana Deslouches, Rachel Fils-Aime, Jack Glicker, Francesca Greco, Daisha Melendez-Stokley, Yasmin Khilji-Neal, Shaye O’Beirne, Erika Varady and Kelly Warren.
Local resident and artist Patrick Giles was this year’s guest speaker, offering up words of inspiration and letting the new inductees know it is possible to earn a living as a working artist. Eric Reynolds the district’s director of fine and performing arts, Ms. Mohanty and Molly Warren also spoke during the ceremony.
The evening was made even more festive by five person chamber orchestra, consisting of Christopher Chang, Hannah Bailin, Maggie Giles, Erika Varady and Haley Mortell. The crowd was dotted with parents and school and district officials.
In addition to the organization’s officers, continuing members include Citlali Del Valle, Jahi Douglas, Lars Drace, Thomas Edgar-McNerney, Xavier Edgar-McNerney, Charlie Ehrman, Lauren Feldman, Katie Giambrone, Maggie Giles, Sarah Glascock, Maya Hoffman, Mia Idler, Chloe Liepa, Matthew McConnell, Theresa Moreno, Rachel Moss, Katarina Obermaier, Emma Pipolo, Samantha Sgrizzi, Christina Varady and Erica Vazquez.
“I am so proud of the accomplishments of our Art Honor Society inductees, and equally proud of the work and dedication of their advisor, Kasmira Mohanty,” Mr. Reynolds said. “These students excel not only in the art studios, but as community members. The service learning projects overseen by the Art Honor Society, ranging from designing and selling tote bags as a fundraiser to painting murals throughout the schools and town, show the ever-present, high-level of creative excellence, as well as pride and passion for their craft.”
