Amber Stieve has made it official. The Huntington High School senior signed an NCAA Division I letter of intent to play lacrosse at Old Dominion University.

Ms. Stieve has starred on the Blue Devil soccer, winter track and lacrosse teams. She’s a hardnosed competitor who plays to win. A valued teammate, she’s a legitimate force to be reckoned with on the field.

The Huntington lax star earlier considered Quinnipiac University, George Mason University, Towson University, University of Maryland Baltimore County and Salisbury University before finalizing her decision.

The teenager is very comfortable with her college choice. “It wasn’t my top school at first, but once I️ visited the Old Dominion campus I️ knew it was the school for me,” Ms. Stieve said. “I️ made good connections with the coaches and players and it was in the range for my academic ability as well. ODU was the whole package.”

Ms. Stieve isn’t sure what she will ultimately pursue as an academic major, but she is interested in physical therapy. “I plan on going in undecided because my desires may change,” she said.

Recruited by ODU as a midfielder/defender, Ms. Stieve is open to being used in whatever way the college coaches deem her to be most valuable to the team. It’s the same type of flexibility she has shown in all three sports she has played at Huntington.

With her parents, Paul and Denise looking on, Ms. Stieve inked the national letter of intent, committing both her and ODU to each other. It brings her one step closer to her goal of playing NCAA Division I lacrosse.

Ms. Stieve is a Natural Helper, assisting and advising fellow high school students as they seek to address personal issues. She’s also active in the Young Leaders youth development organization.

“Huntington has really been a great experience for me,” Ms. Stieve said. “I have made a lot of friends and have achieved a lot of my academic and athletic goals. My time at Huntington has been a truly amazing experience, but I still have the rest of this year and plan on making it an even better experience.”
