Nicole Abbondandelo loves to run. She enjoys it so much and she’s so good that the Huntington High School senior is taking it to the next level, signing an NCAA Division I letter of intent to compete on the Lehigh University cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
The teenager has simply been splendid over the past four years with the Blue Devils. Ms. Abbondandelo has won All-County honors in soccer and competed in the national outdoor track championships. She’s a reasoned competitor with a strong work ethic and the mental toughness to take on any challenge.

“Lehigh immediately stood out to me amongst other schools for both their academics and athletics,” Ms. Abbondandelo said. “Lehigh is a highly selective school that I knew I would provide me with an excellent education regardless of what major I decide on in the future. I fell in love with the campus and their new athletic facilities. The track program at this school is well developed with veteran coaches who are excited to continue to train me. I was instantly welcomed by the team and coaches at Lehigh.”
The senior considered Binghamton University, American University, Lafayette College and Boston University before deciding that Lehigh is the place for her. “I’m going in undecided, but I’m interested in social work,” Ms. Abbondandelo said.
President of the Young Leaders youth development organization and a four year member of Natural Helpers, which assists high school students as they deal with pressing personal issues, Ms. Abbondandelo has earned induction in Huntington’s National Honor Society chapter as well as the English, Italian and Social Studies honor societies.
“I have made unforgettable memories during high school that have helped to shape my life today,” Ms. Abbondandelo said. “I couldn’t have asked anything more from my teachers as they have all supported me and wanted me to succeed. Most people would agree with me that Huntington is a town like no other that I will miss while being away at college. Overall Huntington High School has provided me with more than enough resources that have inspired me to reach my full potential.”
