Ryan Gorecki is headed to Florida Southern College to play on its lacrosse team after signing an NCAA Division II letter of intent. The Huntington High School senior is interesting in studying accounting and business.
“Florida Southern is a school that I believe I can prosper at, both academically and athletically,” Mr. Gorecki said. The teenager earlier considered SUNY Maritime, Hartwick College, University of Tampa, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Jacksonville University and the University of Tampa.
A four year varsity Huntington lacrosse player, Mr. Gorecki intends to play attack at Florida Southern. A versatile athlete, he’s also playing on the Blue Devil basketball team this winter.

“I feel that I have excelled in my studies and have been able to balance my athletics as well as my academics,” said Mr. Gorecki about his time at Huntington High School. “I have pushed myself to become a better student-athlete over the past four years.”
Mr. Gorecki recently joined the Air National Guard Reserve. His coaches at Florida Southern have expressed a willingness to be flexible with him so he can play lacrosse and also fulfill his service responsibilities.
Florida Southern plays its home games at brand-new Moccasin Field at the state of the art Barnett Athletic Complex. The team’s schedule features many of the top squads in NCAA Division II.
Located in Lakeland, Florida, the college’s undergraduate enrollment totals about 2,500 students from nearly every state and 50 countries. The school offers 50 undergraduate majors.
Mr. Gorecki is the seventh member of his extended family to play lacrosse at Huntington High School. Doug, Chelsea, Scott, Karly, Jillian and Ben Kocis are his cousins.
