Lindsay Martin is comfortable around cameras, both behind and in front of them. She enjoys it so much that the Huntington High School senior plans to attend Five Towns College in Dix Hills and pursue an academic major in film production and film studies.

“I chose Five Towns College because the school is known for their talented students in film, audio production, theatre and more,” Ms. Martin said. “The school is just my type because it is nice and small, which will help me learn more and be close to professors and students. It is a close knit school with under 1,000 students. I feel as if I belong there and it is home to me. I will be working with professors that have a background in the film industry, which is amazing. That will help me succeed in my time there and find a job right out of college.”

The teenager was accepted by St. John’s University, Marymount Manhattan College, LIU Post, Pace University and SUNY Purchase, but she found everything she wanted at Five Towns College.

“After graduating from Five Towns, I would love to have a career in television production,” Ms. Martin said. “It would be my dream to work on shows and maybe even movies. Living in New York, I have a huge advantage because the city is an hour away.”

Ms. Martin is taking a variety of courses this year, including Advanced Placement Seminar, Video 4/Portfolio and symphony orchestra. The portfolio course helped the teenager compile videos into a package that she shared with colleges she was interested in attending.

The senior has worked closely with high school art teacher Heather Swan, who leads Huntington’s video arts program. “Throughout all of high school, Mrs. Swan has been there for me the most,” Ms. Martin said. “Mrs. Swan has taught me every single year in my creative video classes. She believes in me incredibly and has taught me to always put my best efforts in. I owe a lot to her.”

“Over the past four years I have seen Lindsay grow as a video artist,” Mrs. Swan said. “Lindsay is very talented and although she is often quiet, some of us lucky few have gotten to see her brilliant comedic side. I truly hope she hones in on those skills and lets the world come along for the ride.”

Outside of class, Ms. Martin participated in the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter for three years and she has also been involved in Relay For Life.

“Lindsay has been my best friend since first grade,” senior Olivia Hannigan said. “From making short films in her computer room at a young age and uploading them to YouTube to filming and editing award winning videos in class, Lindsay has always been creatively driven and very talented. Featured as an actress in several of her videos, I would see how excited and dedicated she was with every video she made. Her videos are one of a kind and I know she will be a big success in the film industry.”

It should come as little surprise that Ms. Martin’s high school highlights center on film, including last year’s 10 Day Film Challenge and the state and national awards that went to her filmmaking team and this year’s film, which recently reached the state finals.

“I loved my time at Huntington High School and my experience couldn’t have been better,” Ms. Martin said. “Every single teacher and student is so caring and are always willing to help. I will never forget how the school always comes together for the greater good and how an overwhelming amount of support is always offered. It is going to be very sad to leave, but I am beyond excited for continuing my education and what the future holds for me!”
