The Huntington High School drama club and its actors captured a sensational 15 Hunting-Tony Award nominations for its fall and spring productions of The Dining Room and Cinderella.

Huntington’s fall production of The Dining Room captured ten Hunting-Tony Award nominations while the spring musical, Cinderella earned five award nods.

Hunting-Tony Awards judges watched every high school drama club production in the town over the past year, forming the basis for the nominations and ultimate honors in each category.

This year’s award recipients will be announced during a gala ceremony on Monday, June 4 at the John W. Engemann Theater on Main Street in Northport. The nominees will walk the red carpet outside the theater at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony kicks off at 7 p.m.

This marks the eighth annual Hunting-Tony Awards ceremony. Huntington High School actors have fared well in previous years. Drama club faulty advisor Michael Schwendemann is excited that his program has received so many nominations.

“I’m over the moon about the kids that were recognized for their work on The Dining Room, but at the same time disappointed for the kids that faced and overcame so many obstacles during the process of putting Cinderella together; losing rehearsals to the loss of my grandmother and the unpredictability of old man winter,” Mr. Schwendemann said. “They worked so hard to overcome these difficulties that I was selfishly hoping that they would be recognized publicly for their efforts.”
