Robert Jean-Gilles displays irrepressible enthusiasm for life. The Huntington High School junior gives his all to every activity he embraces. There are few who can match the teenager’s energy, creativity and positive nature.

Mr. Jean-Gilles has what can best be called a “golden touch.” He has a way of hitting the ball out of the park whenever it’s his turn “at bat.” He easily wins people over with easygoing way and bright smile and is respected and admired throughout the high school.

The teenager’s current academic schedule includes Algebra II, Latin IV, Advanced Placement Environmental Science, AP US History, AP Seminar, science research chamber choir and marching band/concert band.

“I’m feeling really good about my junior year,” Mr. Jean-Gilles said. “I like my classes and my teachers. I believe it’s going to be a great year.”

The junior’s favorite teachers include Michael Graziano, Brian Stellato, Lori Kenny, Michael Schwendemann, Lauren Desiderio, Kristen Fortunato, Kristina Carrano, Kelly Krycinski, Michael Marinello and Beth Vogelsang.

Mr. Jean-Gilles has plans for a busy year. Outside of class he will spend his time participating in marching band, drama club, Latin Club, Latin Honor Society, Natural Helpers and the science research program. He will also be volunteering at the Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center in Huntington.

The teenager is interested in pursuing a career as a marine zoologist. “I’m looking at the University of Delaware because they have a great science program,” Mr. Jean-Gilles said. “I’m also looking at some schools in Florida and California.”

The teenager’s closest friends include Neil Jean-Baptiste, Jenny Low, Nathan Musso, Diego Torres, James Obermaier, Natalie Ciccone and Maddy Kye.

This past summer, Mr. Jean-Gilles attended the Drum Major Academy at the University of Massachusetts and participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Association program in the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts as well as the Blue Devil marching band’s week-long camp.

“What I enjoy about the high school is that there is something for almost everyone,” Mr. Jean-Gilles said. “There are so many options when it comes to classes and clubs. I also like the fact that there are several outlets among the staff for you talk if you have a problem. Even though it sounds cliché, so far Huntington High School has given me some the best memories of my life.”
