The Huntington School District’s PTA Council is ready for the 2017/18 school year. A new slate of officers was sworn in during the organization’s annual luncheon at the Head of the Bay Club in Huntington Bay.

Michelle Kustera will serve as president. Kristin Kanzer and Toniann Mangan are the vice presidents. Carolina Addeo will be the treasurer and Colleen Perfetto will serve as the secretary.

“The PTA Council in Huntington is as strong and supportive as they come,” Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “Members dedicate considerable time and energy to helping ensure that our educational programs are enriched and our students are well supported.”

The PTA, as the Parent Teacher Association is widely known, has a long history in the Huntington School District. It’s been active for nearly a century and has been tireless in its efforts to improve the educational experience of all students.

The Huntington PTA Council is affiliated with the New York State PTA and National PTA.

The Huntington PTA has a long history of advocating and enriching all district students through a variety of events and activities. The PTA Council and local units are an extension of the New York State and National PTA organizations. We advocate for all children at the federal, state and local levels.

Your PTA membership ensures that PTA’s voice is heard on issues affecting young people, as well as providing opportunities for parent education, communication and leadership development. We encourage all students, teachers, and parents to join to help make this happen.

Our PTA volunteers work hard each year to bring programs and activities to our schools so that each child’s experience is enriched. PTA raises funds to sustain a level of excellence and the ability to continue to provide programming. We need the school communities help to ensure we continue to support our students. Whether it be through membership, volunteering your time or participating in our events.

There are a number of programs directly funded by PTA. They include the Arts In Education programs, grade level social activities at the primary level, family pasta nights, Bingo evenings, and dances are just a few of the many offerings. I thank you in advance for participating.

I am excited to serve as your PTA Council president this year. We have a wonderful team of PTA leaders that are ready to help. There will be many opportunities for parents to participate throughout the school year to help our students succeed. A great way is to sign up to volunteer. You can do that by reaching out to a PTA executive board member at your child’s school or to the Special Education PTA. Names and contact information for PTA leaders can be found on the HUFSD website. If you are on Facebook, you can also contact the administrator for the school PTA. Each unit has its own Facebook page. You can also speak with a PTA leader at Meet the Teacher night in the fall.

A great place to hear what is happening in our schools is at a PTA meeting or PTA Council meeting. These dates are listed on the district calendar.

I look forward to meeting many of you this year.

Michele Kustera

PTA Council President, 2017/18
